Very pleased with our Whirlpool one, we looked at the 'proper' american style fridges but they are slightly deeper than a normal Euro fridge so wouldn't fit in the space we had for one.
Having ice on tap really is great, especailly in summer, the only draw back is due to the space the water/ice bit takes up the freezer bit isn't actually that big

We have a Maytag "Wide By Side" which is pretty neat. Gives you more freezer space and still allows mutiple pizzas to be store in the fridge part because of the unique construction. The dispenser does filtered water, ice cubes and crushed ice. Great for parties...

I also have a stainless steel Whirlpool "side by side" style fridge freezer.

It has been superb, the freezer is frost free, so no more hair dryer moments every couple of months! The fridge is huge, don't honestly think it has ever een truly full, in spite of good efforts.

The freezer loses space to the ice maker as Raceboy points out, but I have a second fridge freezer in the garage (for beer) so I can always use the freezer part if necessary.

Thats the fella i got by the sound of it , losing space in the freezer is made up for by the chilled water and instant ice

I've just bought a whirlpool, Smaller than Ernests, the one door type. 32 inches wide to fit into the "gap"
Needed a left side hinge, only a few of the single door stainless ones are reversable hinge, some are special order, some are right side hinge only.
You would think buying a fridge was a ten minute thing, took me all morning. $750 $46 delivery which was later refunded inc old fridge removed.

We have a black whirlpool, get bit of kit, like others have said the ice maker takes up some space, I believe the new ones have been re-designed so take up less space, over xmas we take the ice maker out to free up some more space.

I've got a Samsung one in a similar style to the above. Not stainless steel but a s/s effect, looks more like shiny brown but looks great anyway, has different zones of temp and humidity in the fridge and of course the fantastic water and ice maker. Love it!

The water filter needs changing every 6 months and costs around £20.
