We all like to think we find bargains, but I am giving up on Ebay, it's just so full of rubbish,, I'm sure there are many true bargains on there, from genuine people, but it's nothing more than a glorified on line car boot sale.
I have bought:
1- a 'new' set of wheel trims for Chan's Clio, which transpired not to be new at all!
2-a 'book' about the Tuscan/Tamora/Cerbera, which, in reality isn't a book at all, but an amalgamation of poorly photocopied articles from other publications!
3- a Nokia 6610i USB data cable, which is useless as the Nokia PC suite does not recognise the data cable, hence not recognising the phone, another waste of money!
4- locking wheel nuts for Tuscan/Tamora,, in fairness, I haven't tried them out yet, but as I seem to have the equivalent of a negative Midas touch when it comes to eyeing up bargains, I don't hold out much hope!!!
Am I the only one???? lol

ebay is crap other people don't want, however it is also a great place to find older or harder to find things such as 2nd hand Spot Lights for cars, or a specific bit of trim for a car...

I have been genuinely pleased with the stuff I've bought on ebay. For instance - recently bought a nearly new mig welder £170 - Discount retailers selling the same thing new for £425. Bought a Clarke power hacksaw for only £51 as it had some parts missing. Spent £30 on spares from Machine Mart and now have a fully working machine that would cost over £600 new. Have also had some good fishing tackle bargains as well.
Perhaps I've just been lucky.

I've always got exactly what was described on every auction I've won and (touch wood) will continue to. I think there are probably particular types of items that you're almost always going to lose out on. I've a selection of things ranging from a car to vinyl.

I suppose it depends what you're looking for, but I reckon cars are a bit of a no-hoper, as the fact that it's all out of reach and you bid to buy means that a canny seller can carefully photograph and describe the car to make it out as though there's nothing actually wrong with it.

Did you end up buying one that does work, Chris?
If so, which one?

Cheers,

Pete

Yes, and no, yes there are folks out there who screw you over at every opportunity, however you get that if you buy a car from a forecourt. I’ve bought some very nicely prepared forecourt cars that have turned out to be sheds. Likewise I’ve bought two cars off ebay, one we had a look at before we bid the other I didn’t, but I was chuffed to bits with both of them.

Basically no matter where you buy a car, someone will want to rip you off.

Iain

Buyer Beware.

I've Just Bought a Rocking Horse on Ebay for £400, but I went and collected it myself declining the extortionate delivery. I did this so I could get the guy to unwrap it and I could carefully inspect it (It was new, but whose to say it was not a reject).

I've bid on cars, but never more than £30.

Seems a great place to get rid of stolen goods, well the clothes my wife gets seem very dodgy indeed if you ask me.

No pete , still haven't managed to 'hook up' my new phone to the PC, but I am not prepared to pay the extortionate cost of the official cable from Nokia!, I guess I was hoping too much from Ebay for something that actually worked! lol

Darn. Same quandry here. Recently retired the 8210 in favour of a 6610i. Was going to EBay a cable but your post put me right off! The cable I EBayed for the 8210 worked after a fashion, but was anything but simple to use As you say, the official gear is grnerally a tad pricey.

I bought a Fridge freezer for £65 and a Sony 28" TV for £102. Pleased as punch with both of them.

I did try all weekend to get the cable to recognise the phone, alas, all a waste of time,,, I hooked the cable to the PC and it asked for the driver, which I duly installed, thats all fine, then I installed the PC suite, only to find it did not recognise the phone, I also tried previous suites too, just to make sure, all the same results. I then logged on to the Nokia website and downloaded the official driver for the DKU-05 data cable, and installed that, still the same result, nothing!!! So, a tenner worse off, but wiser!!
I am sure, as I stated that there are plenty of genuine people out there selling stuff they no longer want, but, as with all boot sales, there are plenty of Del Boy types, I just seem to keep running into that sort!!! lol
