Pretty much as the title suggests. Are you allowed to use personal DVD players during a flight? Someone told me that they were told not to use theirs on a recent trip.

If it was Ryan Air then I believe that they don't allow you to because of Irish aircraft rules, though that may just be a rumor.

I thought it was ok to use personal CD players once the plane was at cruising height, so I wouldn't have thought a DVD player would be any different???

Who are you flying with? If its Virgin they have lots of films on anyway that you can watch at times to suit you

I said the same thing about CD players being acceptable so I couldn't see why a DVD wouldn't be.

A number of airlines are now issuing premium passengers with dvd players plus a selection of movies to watch during the flight.

They are generally allowed, as are laptops etc. I've watched many dvds on my laptop on many different airlines.

you aren't allowed to use any electronics (laptops/dvd players/mp3 players...) on take off/landing procedures/when the seatbelt sign is on but during the flight is fine so long as it doesn't interfere with other people (i.e. you use headphones not the loudspeaker)

We have never had a problem with using personal DVD players or laptops on flights. As mentioned before you are often given one when flying first or business. Don't know why your friend was told they couldn't use one.

I used my camcorder on a flight and managed to still use it during landing
As long as its a device that dont give off RF frequencies i cant see the problem.
