Now I don't normally get the whole thing about seeing someone who you normally see on the TV or at the cinema and going crazy. It doesn't make any sense. Sometimes a bit strange, like when you see how tall all the F1 drivers are for example. I mean Coulthard looks really tall on TV but I'm 2" taller than him. Bumping into soap stars. So what? But I think I have finally realised what it's all about...

Yesterday at our students union we had a very special guest. Alan Fletcher, aka Karl Kennedy from Neighbours was at our union! Now we have had some pretty big acts for a union including Liberty X, Coolio and Jordan off the top of my head (and no, I couldn't care less) but Karl Kennedy! HOW COOL IS THAT?!! It's not just me being sad either. He got the biggest reception of anyone I've ever seen at the union and I've been there for 4 years. He was an absolute legend by the way and have to say that it absolutely made my day to see him. Now I'm sure that most people will be wondering why this is such a big deal and perhaps this will only be fully understood by fellow univesity students who regularly have lunch in front of Neighbours but I thought I would share this with you all. So there

So does anyone have a similar story to me. I mean have you ever been genuinely amazed or suprised by the way that you've reacted seeing someone in public eye, or is it just me...?

Ginge, think we must follow suit and produce an fs neighbours 35 min slot on a wednesday. As for good old Karl, who landed quite a hot chick on the program and is apparently with libby in real life, my mate asked one of the three questions and had her hand signed. Not boasting btw. She was pretty chuffed though.

Christ, it was Neighbores when I was a student a decade+ ago. The decade before that it was Chorlton & the Wheelies. A couple of years ago it was Teletubbies. I can't believe things haven't moved on - Hi-Five must surely be essential student viewing by now?

At least it's sunny and the girls are pretty. Rather different from EastEnders, raining, ugly and miserable.

I lived with a girl for 3 years who was of exactly that opinion. She much prefered Home and Away

Neighbours may have been around for longer than I have but it is still quality student viewing.

I would like to add that I have never and nor am I aware of any student that I know of has ever watched the teletubbies. That is wrong. Plain and simple. What about Quincy though? Now there's a show...

We went to the theatre last Christmas and Emma Thompson was sitting a few seats along from us. I had to squeeze past her (oh hellllo) when I went to the loo in ther interval because she had a child asleep on her lap and couldn't get up. We had a brief chat about it in fact. She was very nice actually.

Err, that's it really.

Sure you are right with the telly tubby rubbish. Always hated it. They put that crap on replacing Playbus/days which in my childhood was quality viewing.

As far as retro viewing though its got to be the A-Team for sure. Going to make a replica of the van but with a race engine and swivelling bucket seats not in that awful grey colour. Back to neighbours. its quality shite. two words that best sum it up. its trash to love. here to stay. best bird got to have been nicola charles aka sarah bomont. One of karls previous affairs. I dont' condone those but legend none the less

As a fan of Neighbours, I think seeing Karl Kennedy is pretty cool Meeting Dee would be even better, but she sadly died on her wedding day

Saw a famous celebrity of my own a couple of weeks ago. I was in a department store in Cambridge city centre. Turned round and there was Prof. Steven Hawking looking at the plasma tellys! Strange but true

Don't forget the Dukes of Hazzard. My "lottery garage" would have a 69 Charger in it...

pidgeon,

good to see someone else with similar views. The only other realistic one would be a replica of the 46 City Chevvy from Days of Thunder. That would be mint.

I find seeing celebs in the flesh rather underwhelming actually.

The only 'celeb' I've ever asked an autograph from is Peter Ebdon, as he used to play at my local snooker centre.
