Did my pet chicken die of a broken heart?
Discussion
There's an article in the Daily Telegraph today about a pet chicken who died of a broken heart because the pet cat (it's companion [a love-hate relationship apparently]) had died three days previously! Obviously, a tale told by parents to comfort the child.
So, it got me thinking, what excuses/explanations did your parents give you for pets dying while you were young?

No excuses were given when my uncle trod on my pet gerbil when I was 4! He let it out to run around and stepped on him while trying to catch him again.
Flat as a pancake!
Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. That's dreadful. Poor thing. But I'm ashamed of myself but that's hilarious...

My mum buried my brother's hamster alive - twice (she thought it was dead and wanted to get rid of it incase it was upsetting for us ). The second time we dug it up its personality had changed somewhat (pet sematry anyone?). I still don't know if she has any understanding of the word nocturnal. To this day I sleep with one eye open....
You heartless lot!
His name was Jerry you know.
After stepping on him he kind of stuck to the carpet and had to be peeled off.
I know this coz it left a stain which is how I found out how he died. That plus he wasn't in his cage.
