Well my current TV went bang the other day, smoke flames the lot.

I need a new TV, my dad has a 32” widescreen Toshiba that looks good. I have always bought Sony in the past but reading some threads it seems that other manufactuers have better products out there.

Which makes should I look out for. This is not for a plasma of LCD just a normal (widescreen) TV.

Ill go and buy a mag tonight, just wonderd what you thought.

Everyone at the moment is raving about the Phillips 32PW9509.

What Hi Fi have just produced an ultimate guide to home cinema - in all good shops now!

Do images still look squashed on widescreen TVs or have they fixed that? Rich...

Yup, This months edition has best models of all electronics. Phillips has a very good review and is their choice, but lacks progressive scan. Personally I would go for the No. 2 rated Panasonic that has progressive scan (I personally like the 'warmer' nature of Panasonic screens).

From memory I think this is the TV they were refering to: www.panasonic.co.uk/integrated-digital-tv/tx32dtx40c1/index.htm

And Philips!!! My dad used to open 'em . . .

I like the Triniton Sony's because the soft colours and the 'real' black. I have one for 2 yrs and love it.

My dad still insits on watching normal TV in widescreen mode, so everybody ends up looking fat

Phillips 32PW9509 retails at about £1000

£995 in John Lewis with 5 year guarantee but can be had online for as little as £753.

Might be worth asking JL to price match?

Add another £200 to the budget and I'm sure Argos are doing a large plasma, could be worth the money by not having to upgrade in the near future ?

Philips with Pixel Plus 2 (way better than PP1)
And I speak as a Toshiba Picture Frame 2 owner.

Have you seen the latest Philips LCD screens though! PP2 AND prog scan! And upto 42"
The plasma screen is dead. In 12 months time no-one will sell them.

(B&O are totally overrated and completely outdated. It would be like paying £20k for an MGB)
