Year of manufacture of a car
Discussion
BMIHT should be able to provide a certificaet that will tell you the day it was built. http://www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk/exhibitions...
And one more click gives the chassis numbers for Jan 1 1973

This is assuming it's for your Stag, but the website lists all teh cars they have records for.
If it's not a BMC /BL vehicle then the OC may know.

So what is "fair" ? a 74 cut off date just for you? so all the 75 owners start to say "that's unfair" ??
There has to be a cut off date so somone is allways gonna be just outside it, it's not unfair just unlucky, try owning a Jan 2nd 1973 classic and having to pay VED on it, is that more unfair than yours ? no but i pay it anyway .

It should be on the age of the car, not the year of manufacture. So 1974 cars are not classics in the governments eyes !
The cut off date always used to be cars older than 25 years old. However in 1997 they freezed it so the government could get more money by making more people pay car tax but without annoying the owners of cars that already could get free tax. So it doesn't really have much to do with 'is it a classic' anymore.Gassing Station | Classic Cars and Yesterday's Heroes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
