I would love to have another ‘classic’ again, but, living in London, I’ve not got a suitable garage, and with moving not an option, I was wondering if anyone on here that lives within the M25 circle uses any of these classic car storage facilities and what are the pros and cons other than the obvious ones of limited access and cost…?
I’ve spent a bit of time trawling around looking for a suitable suit lock-up etc in the local area, but, there’s simply nothing of either a suitable size and/or suitably secure irked

its a tough one, I have a vintage car I want to use but there isn't anything in London suitable that costs less than £25 / week and is suitably secure.

Once it is ready I will probably opt for something on the A3 / M25 borders so as to drive out of Urban areas and then use it where I am not stop starting or sitting in traffic.

I pay £156 a month for secure, dry, ventilated parking in north London. That's about a fiver a day. The storage facility has a good on site mechanic. It is open at reasonable times Monday to Friday, and in the morning on saturdays.

That's typical of the restricted access issues I'm coming across frown

If you typically want to use to car on a Sunday for an event/show/whatever then you can't get access to the car early on, and then return the car late on a Sunday.

How secure must secure be?

Have you considered a parking space in a secured underground carpark of an apartment block?

Or maybe a lock-up within a gated development?

If you had tools, spares etc that you also needed space for, perhaps you could consder the underground parking space for the car itself and a cheap lockup to keep all the other stuff in.

There's bugger-all local underground parking near where I live in East Dulwich. I'd be keen to hear recommendations from others as my car is currently undergoing a £4k repaint. I'm not looking forward to parking it on the street when it gets back.

For what it's worth, I found gumtree.com to be the best place to find a lock-up garage, while parklet.co.uk seemed to be the best place to find underground parking (e.g. search for property SP6120 on this website for an underground parking space in Wandsworth).

Aeropilot, where are you looking generally? I've got a mahoosive old American car that's always been a bugger trying to find secure space for but i've done quite a bit of research over the years and, given a more specific area, might be able to help you.

That's exactly my requirement.... secure and accessible space for a vintage yank biggrin

Area would be west of London, say, in corridor between the M4 and A/M40 from A406 out to M25, or maybe a bit beyond.

If your classic is not useed regularly, why not look out in the countryside for a good farmers dry barn. I rent a large barn, (holds circa 6 cars, my large workbench and boxes of parts) it has full lighting, power points and security lighting with a concrete frontage for rolling out a car on a sunny day to work on. The cost?...................£180 a month.

To be honest i'm not that hot on those areas, I know places a bit further into town. For instance my car has at various times been in Chelsea Harbour and two other places in Wandsworth - at the moment I finally have a mahoosive private garage in Twickenham, mind you, park a Lincoln in it and all of a sudden it's a squeeze!

To be honest I reckon your best bet is to trawl through Gumtree, Parklet and the like (or, if Twickenham's not too far out of the way there's a garage next to mine going spare...)
