Hi All,

I'm trying to find some Classic Car track events to take my '91 Nissan Skyline GTR to.

The R32 was produced from 89-94 but as yet it doesn't seem to have classic car status.

Does anyone know of any events I might be able to join?

Many thanks for any help,
Sam

Given that a R32 skyline would keep with most of the stuff at any track day you care to name, why do you think you need to go to a 'classic' day?

Thanks for your reply. I really want to try and get the car recognised as a classic and was hoping an association with a classic car club or participation on a track day might help. I belong to the GTR owners club and there seems to be a fair number of owners that would love to do a classic car track day but might not feel comfortable doing a normal day.

I think mostly because the car was never sold through Nissan in UK it doesn't have the same status as a E30 M3 etc but deserves one.

Just trying to establish the car as a classic smile

i know this sounds a bit pompus but because your car is 20 years old it doesn't make it a classic - I will agree that they are a great car and have survived well compared to a lot of other jap cars in that category such as the 300zx but i don't think many people would define it as a classic

And to be honest, most of the classic track days are due to the cars not being able to keep up with modern metal. You'll have no trouble in an R32, so why bother?

Big fan of the R32 GTR, possibly the best of the breed dynamically if not cosmetically.

But it aint a classic. Infact I'd argue it isn't even a modern classic. Jap stuff just doesn't seem to fall in to those categories as easily as they have their own category.

Thanks for you replies chaps, I take on board what you're saying.

There must be some sort of classic event that would cater for an 80's racing legend?

Any ideas anyone?

I appreciate what some have said about the 32 still being quick in modern terms but am just looking for advice on how to establish the car as a classic. In other countries for example they have lots of track days/ autotests rallies for marques such as the 32 so am hoping there might be something in UK.

Thanks again for any help smile

An 80s or early 90s track day would be the fitting event.

they are too well protected from rust to be considered a classic - maybe when you have been through a few panels it could be called a classic!

Jimski your right they are well protected against rust, and i also think that just because they are jap made they are over looked by a lot of people.I know a 32 gtr will never get the status of say a mk1 lotus cortina but they are a wicked car imho.

I totally agree there are only a few jap cars that are classed as classics or semi classics compared to most english cars up to the mid 80's which compared to the jap cars of the time weren't as well engineered but the 32 gtr is a great car but almost has a legendary status rather than a classic one

Bizzare. You don't seem to be particularly interested in the trackday itself, but only as a means to getting it established as a 'classic'? A 'classic' car is also a very subjective term, so I'm not sure what your trying to achieve.
