That XR3i brings back some memories! I had a caspian blue XR3 in 1983 (carburettor predecessor to what you have). I remember it had a tremendous feel good factor to drive and held the road well (courtesy of 60 profile rubber). Yours looks very nice. Look after it.
Cheers.I had an identical one to this back in 86.Kept it for 12 years and completed only 17k.
Bleedin girlfriend wrote it off.
Always swore Id get another.

Very nice; reminds me of the cabrio I once had - same colour.
Looks like yours has XR2 'pepperpot' wheels? Much nicer than the originals.
Or are they the rare steel standard wheel, with plastic trim?Looks like yours has XR2 'pepperpot' wheels? Much nicer than the originals.

Not seen a Mk3 Escort in ages, I've still got the tool for valve stem seals without removing the head in my toolbox.
Me too. I had two ordinary Mk3 1600 Escorts and then I rebuilt a stolen/recovered black '86 C reg XR3i. I could just about do the valve stem seals and cambelts in my sleep back then. It's so nice to see a good example still around.I used to get a lift to school in one of these from a neighbour. Always remember the little digital clock near the sunvisor. Funny how the daftest details stick in your mind 25-odd years later. I think it's about time the XR3 had some recognition. It's always the Golf GTi that gets the limelight in mags - despite its terrible brakes and dated styling

Glad its not just me that remembers the Golf GTi as having terrible brakes, but I really don't remember the any of the XR3i and Onion 1.6i that I drove having any better brakes. The mechanical ABS, when fitted, wasn't too hot and the Mrs' one used to fail open circuit, ie no damn brakes at all.Gassing Station | Classic Cars and Yesterday's Heroes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
