I Have to Stop buying Cars
Discussion
Just bought another car, I have to get this under control ! In my defence it's a Series 3 XJ6 absolutely immaculate and owned for over twenty years by an ex Vicarage employee who's prepared it to an unbelievable standard.
And it's a manual gearbox.
First test will be to France in a couple of weeks.

Wow. How much if you don't mind? I'm going to guess £~15k?
Quite a bit less than that but I prefer not to say on the forum (in case I sell it later!). The S3's don't fetch big money but I reckon this was still a bargain considering the condition. The previous owner is a top guy and I'll certainly look after the car well.
Update.Took the car to France - Charente region. We did around 1200 miles and averaged approximately 24/25 mpg.
The only problem was a blown fuse that put all the gauges off.Easily diagnosed as being a short on the reversing light switch which we could work around.
The aircon worked well and the car was comfortable to drive. I hadn't driven an S3 for a long time so it was an interesting experience. Performance wise the car is no hardship in modern traffic and cruises easily at (and above) the legal limits in France. The ride is very good but a bit soft by current standards - but then I see that as a benefit on UK roads !
It was interesting on the Ferry back when we were in a queue directly behind the latest XJ. The new car looks absolutely massive in comparison to the S3 - particularly the height. I have to say I wasn't impressed. The rear end looks too heavy and the leaping cat on the boot lid looks particulary naff in my opinion.

Naff? The whole car looks naff - as a Jaguar that is. Looks like it was spawned from the last round of the Mondeo which came about from the jelly mould shape. I fail to see how the owners of the Jaguar name have got away with stealing in iconic British name to place it on a car that no matter how good or great it is, it does not in any way shape or form a Jaguar make. The writing was on the wall years ago at the introduction of the poor mans (allegedly) Jaguar, the X Type. The XJ saloon should and needs to be a continuation of the S1 shape, just as Porsche have done with the 911 over the years. The sad thing is, it isn't just the manufacturer to blame. The people who buy them, the people who accept them. They're just as much to blame for having the gall to call these mundane shapes of industry practical design in the name of their iconic predecessors.
I wish the one that I bought a few years ago was in as good nick as that one! Mine was totally FUBAR, and probably only ran for about 6 hours in the year that I owned it for.
Would probably get another one in better nick, if I was feeling brave and could justify it though. Lovely cars, and yours looks like a peach. Jellous.

Thanks for all the positive comments. The car is a 4.2.
The pictures of the interior are probably very slightly flattering, although it is in very good condition it's not concourse.
The bodywork however is completely immaculate, likewise the wheels and chromework etc. Underbonnet is also extremely good.
The car is not a low mileage queen, rather it's been virtually rebuilt during the previous ownership and maintained to a high standard since.
