My father recently passed away and left this 1932 MG M brooklands as well as a few other cars a panhard ct24 etc, Im not really sure what it would be worth as I have never seen one for sale any ideas and would auction be the best way to sell it?

Sorry to hear about your Pop, obviously a petrolhead at heart.

I'd suggest taking advice from a number of different places to see what they say, one or two auction houses, one of the sale on commission places like Malcolm Elder, and maybe a couple of dealers and perhaps the relevant clubs. A bit of homework will help secure the best price.

There is a massive wealth of knowledge here on PH, a few pictures of the cars and you'll get some suggestions.

Sorry for your loss.

Auction has the certainty of a sale (subject to level of reserve), but you do pay (say 10%+10%) for the service.

The Triple M register has a few cars for sale. Including an M.

I don't really know the differences between a M, 12/12, J2 or an OHC Minor in a posh frock.
I'm sure the MMM Register could help.

You could alwayds try this lot Heritage Vintage Auctions. Failing that clubs or ebay is the way forward.

There is one on Pre War Car at the moment.

I would have thought 10-15K would be right for a "normal" M, more for anything special. I would agree with the above that the MMM register is worth contacting as well as the Vintage Minor Register(links for both on www.vscc.co.uk) but to get a proper valuation I would approach one of the Auction Houses and a specialist dealer.

The best auction house depends upon where in the country you are? I would also recommend getting a copy of The Automobile magazine which contains all of the prewar specialist dealers.

Mind you , they are great little competition cars for VSCC events...

looking at the one on the Tripple M website its very similar although a few bits extra like brooklands fintail exhaust, special racing gearbox, red ex vacum guages etc it does pain me to sell it as he restored it completley, but I do have a general idea now what its worth now and a list of auction houses in my local area specialising in classic cars and spare parts so thankyou all for your help.

Why not keep it and use it? Look at vscc.co.uk to see the range of compettiive events you could compete in.

Also, be careful which auction house you use, some are considerably better than others when it comes to pre-war cars.

Your profile says you are in Kent. About 7 years ago we did a trip down the M23 looking at M types, Gavin Mcquire http://www.gavinmcguire.co.uk/ had one at £7.5K and Gerry Wadman http://www.sussexsportscars.co.uk/ had a tired one at £5K. We eventually got an A7, but I do remember trying to clamper into the one at Gavin's with the roof up. Of course like most vintage cars they have gone up in the last few years with the flight from IceSave and the strength of the Euro, in hindsight ... we should have bought both!

The value will also be dependant on whether your particular car has any provenance especially if you have any racing history for it. Again the VSCC or MGCC M register may be able to help you. A bit of research before any sale / auction could pay dividends.
