Not keen on wire wheels ( Why Jag carried on fitting them is beyond me) and mine are past their best, so i may ? change to a Minilight Alloy, either Knock on or bolt on fitment.

Will a 7 Inch rim fit under the rear arches ( i dont mind teasing the inner arches a tad ) and what tyres and sizes will fit ?

Was thinking of a 215x60 15.

I know a 6 1/2 inch wheel will fit as I had them on a fhc some time back. That size will be okay for a 215 tyre.

The Dunlop style alloys would be another alternative , but I imagine they're quite pricey.

I had a set of alloys on a V12 roadster but for the life of me I can't remember what make they were.

Dunlop racing rims look nice, but appear to cost an absolute bomb. I don't know that I've seen any centre-lock Minilites that look anything other than a bit of a lash-up.

If you are talking of the mag-alloy Dunlops racing wheels, they are around £2,000 each so out of the question. However, have a look here and you'll see that they aren't much different in price to wires:-

On the subject of width, the standard wheels are 5 1/2J but if you go to 6J and fit the 205 tyres used on the V12 they'll fit but you'll need to removed the bump stops. Going wider than that would involve body surgery.

I´ve got Minilite replicas on my series 3 E Type. I don´t like the look of the standard "Ford Popular" steel rims and would not have the patience to keep wires clean and shiney. Get a lot of grief from people in my classic car club though.....my augument is that they are period. I would´t put them on a series 1 though, the dunlop racing alloys are the obvious choice

Minilite will still make magnesium wheels to order, I've got some on my Mk2. They look much more period than the aluminium copies and are just unbelievably light, probably more of a benefit on your E than my Mk2.
