Jefff Uren Ford Capri Stampede 5 ltr 302 Boss Mustang engine
Discussion
Awesome, i had completely forgotten about the "Uren Stampede Capri".
Basil Green in Sth Africa had very succesfully shoehorned a Ford V-8 into the Capri in Circa 1971, Calling it "The Perana". Its possible that Urens got hold of a Perana , before building their own version.
The Stampede in Urens brochure shot appears to be based on a Pre Facelift 3 Litre Capri. 14 inch Wolfrace Alloys were probably needed to clear the Bigger Callipers.
Its anyones guess how many were made, i was into 3 Litre Capris in a huge way in the 80s , but dont ever recall seeing one.
Would love one for myself.

The ex-Uren mechanic that used to do my MOT's used to look after one of these, but it was an early single lamp Mk2 Capri version..... one of the last to be done from what I remember John telling me. It had been 'customised' very early on in it's life with typical '70's murals and all the panels over a base white paint job, and had Wolfie slots as well. The then current owner had owned it for many, many years and it was almost permantley in M&W's workshop, John only working on it in slack times.... I'd say it was in there for at least 2-3 years before the workshop finally closed down. It needed a couple of pistons, and original nos BOSS 302 pistons were almost impossible to obtain, even from the USA.
John told me they didn't convert too many as new crate BOSS 302 engines had already been had to get from the states, even in 1973, as the last BOSS 302 had been made in 1970.

This car is in one of the car mags this month
Holy thread resurrection again !
Car has had detailing work to bring it up to as-delivered spec. This included engine rebuild - taking the BOSS 302 to 385 bhp @ 7000rpm
Still sporting that mech spray paint job :-)
Still haven't seen or heard of any others. Original customer delivery was at Goodwood Test Day back in 1975.

This brings back fond memories. I went to school with a chap whose dad had first a mk2 Savage Cortina in black (which my school friend accidentally drove into a work bench in the garage his dad worked in!), followed by a 'petrol blue' mk3.
Both really interesting cars and felt very quick for the time. If I remember correctly the black mk2 was also nicked and used in a bank job but it was returned a few days after still covered in fingerprint dust and none matching number plates. It's reg. number started VOY and ended with a 'G', wonder where it is now?

Looks like the Jeff Uren Mk2 Ford Capri mentioned above was featured in the November 2014 edition;

VOY 3G probably dead.
VOY 647G ex press car, probably dead.
VOY 674 G last taxed 1999 so hopefully lurking in a garage somewhere.
Was your mates dad petrol blue one a MK3 Savage? I would be interested in any info you may have if he had one of those.

Yes it was, a metallic blue. I think the seats were sand or beige. On a J reg. I think. He would have owned it from about 1972 or 73. I think he sold it to buy an Audi Quattro. The owner was a great mechanic called Bob Steer. I knew his son Nigel who worked in F1 as a mechanic for Surtees, Tyrelll & Minardi.
