Will their first mission to be rescuing Lady Penelope from the evil clutches of.....................

THE CLAMPERS ??

I love the 100 year old Ford Thunderbird (series made in 1965 but dated and set in 2065)

And of course the scaling of the 2 vehicles is somewhat adrift as FAB1 is about 2 miles long Hee Hee !!

Ironically as far as the first picture is concerned when they made the "up to date" film in recent years......

Looking very like

A Ford Thunderbird !!

Thanks for looking

It is and I remember all those years ago we were coming home from West Wittering or somewhere and this giant monster of a pink thing was heading towards us taking up a road and a half, it was the real car they built of FAB1 Lady Penelope's Rolls Royce !!

I have it in my head that the 'real' FAB 1 was built on a Bedford coach chassis and fitted with a Cresta/Ventora 3.3-litre engine, but I stand to be corrected.

I recall seeing it on display at Cricket St Thomas in Somerset when I was a kid (a small kid as opposed to a big one!).

I always loved the series, and it was the first programme I ever saw on a colour TV.

I seem to recall seeing FAB1 in 'The Cars The Star' up in the Lakes last year.

Excellent thread! I always enjoyed Gerry Anderson's series, so here is another bit of trivia to go with the above: The occasional shot of Lady Penelope's legs were a real set modelled by none other than Sylvia Anderson. Years after the series ended the original Lady Penelope puppet was sold along with a quote from Sylvia to the effect, I can't stand looking at that damn thing, it never gets any older!

Mark.

I actually lived in Slough about 10 mins from where they made the shows just over Dover Road bridge on Slough Trading Estate, you would pass the unit going into London from Reading on the train.

I know a guy who lived at the back of the Britwell Estate and he remembers playing football with the heads of the discarded puppets when they shut the factory.

I think they were Sylvia's hands as well when they showed Penelope picking things up.
