After a bit of advise with regards to the value of a 1971 V12 E-type.

The car was my late fathers and has been in the family for around 20 years, when I was younger it was regularly used, however over the last few years with my mother not really using it at me occasionally dragging it out for a run it's become quite apparent that it should really be sold. We've really only held onto it for so long as it was my fathers pride and joy.

Spec is as follows

1971 V12 E-type
around 55,000 miles
Midnight blue with grey leather
Chrome wire wheels
Manual

it was subject to a restoration in the 80's before my father bought it and is still in very good condition, after an Idea of it's value as I don't really have a clue.

Hi Andy, Im a TVR man myself and I was just scrolling through areas on this site that I have not looked at before.
If I could afford an E type it would be in my garage now. The car you are discribing sounds very collectable. Go on e-bay and other sites and check out the prices to get an idea of what its worth.
Im no expert but I would expect a car of the condition you mentioned to fetch between 30 to 50k

Check out the sites to see what other people are selling for. If I win the lottery Can I have first refusal.!!!!

Regards Brian.

From the way you describe it I'd probably say about £35,000. It has the benefit of being tax exempt, but as always, it will depend on a full inspection and condition to be sure of the value. Check that the anti-freeze has been kept topped up since the alloy engine waterways will corrode if not and she'll run hot.

You don´t say whether it´s a convertible or coupe, as has been said this makes quite a lot of difference. I have had a 1971 coupe with similar spec for 21 years now, cost me 25,000 pounds when I bought it and is probably worth about the same now. Ah....no depreciation you might say but if Mrs Fareaster ever works out how much I have spent on it I´ll be talking in a much higher voice!
I would expect a convertible to be worth about 10-15k more but, as Lowdrag says condition is critical. I get the JEC magazine monthly and have seen tatty coupe´s offered for less than 15K and apparently immaculate timewarp convertibles going for 100K plus, huge range.

My spelling is bl**dy terrible, just looked in the urban dictionary and saw what a convertable is, something to do with foreskins......

I've noticed the V12 has been on the upward trend lately.

E-Type values are daft as they come at the moment. If you have one to sell good for you.
I always fancied a Series 2 coupe but no chance for me now.

Cheers for the replies, gives me something to go on.

I'll have to give it a good clean and get some decent photo's and see how I get on.

This year is the 50th anniversary of the E, so there will be a lot of E-Type related events and a lot of E-Type related publicity. So that tends to increase the market prices.
Also the age group that is coming into buying classic cars as an investment/dream/toy/fancy/always wanted... are now the people who grew up with the E.
At least that is what the dealers are saying.
So don't expect any E-Type bargains this year.

So let's wait until next year when the reality of ownership bites and/or the novelty has worn off.
As somebody who has recently tried and failed to buy one, I hope that I'm not going to have to eat my words rolleyes.

Last year I seriously considered buying an E type, a car I've always wanted since I was a boy (and they were new!). I narrowed it down to a 4.2 coupe s1 or s2. Within the budget I was looking at it (up to 40k) that would have been a running car to be treated as a rolling restoration.Realistically 30 - 35k plus contingency money. Having done my research however, and looked at what was available, I doubt I would have had much enjoyment from driving it. As was pointed out above, these cars are 50 years old and unless they've had serious money spent on them recently(which wouldn't be likely within my budget), they are going to need that money spending to make them something you could reliably use. So sadly, I doubt I'll ever be able to afford a decent E type.

Not all doom and gloom though, as I've ordered a new Caterham. As one door closes...smile

Mark.

Well there are some decent Series 2 Coupes out there for sensible money. Often overlooked but drive the same.

Last month I saw 2 at sub 30k. Very hard original cars that you could immediately enjoy
