Hi there,

My father is restoring a 1963 etype coupe and is considering which route to go down with regards to stripping paint and corrosion on the body. In the past on other projects, the restorers he has used have sandblasted the body. He’s mentioned ‘soda’ blasting which is meant to be a less aggressive form of the latter however we wondering if one is better than the other.

He has already received a quote for soda blasting the body for £1500+ vat. This seems quite steep. Can anyone recommend anywhere else? We are based in Bedfordshire so anywhere local’ish would be good.

Thanks!

I think you will find soda blasting not very effective on rust .

The body is actually quite good nick with very little or no rust. Where it does appear is behind the chrome window fittings for example and this is mainly surface. The floor has the worst of it but again is certainly not terminal...

He reckons it'll need 2 days. Price includes pick up and drop off of car.

Yes good idea to get a quote for a moris minor...but what then happens when he comes to collect and its an etype? Suppose it could be used as a negotiating tool...

Would prefer if anyone can reccommend anywhere?

This isn't close to you, but might give a comparison price. I fthey are a lot cheaper they might be worth using even though they aren't local (Kent). I haven't used them, just had this to the club email.
