Have just found this original Lotus Escort on E-Bay for £65k, yes folks 65 big ones. I know they are rare but when you think what you could buy for that you will have to be one serious Escort lover.

And not surprisingly, it's been up for sale on and off on the bay of evil for that price for getting on for 18 months or more now.
The seller is truely living in cloud cuckoo land if he things anyone would pay that for a Twin Cam (it was never called a Lotus Escort), no matter how good a condition it is..... and..... it's not even that correct in terms of it's restoration....so, I'd say, it's at least 35-40k overpriced
Even that ex-works historic prepared one didn't sell at a price less than that one only a month or so ago.

I am amazed at the price of any Mk1 or Mk2 escort at the moment.
I wonder how many twin cams there are left out of the 200?
I know the whereabouts of an engine which is supposedly out of a 'lotus escort'.
Might have to investigate further.

What 200......?There were 883 Twin Cams made in the UK between 1968 and 1971.
(A version of the Twin Cam was assembled in Australia from UK supplied components as well, but I have no idea if there are any records for how many were assembled out there)
Back in the mid to late 1980's, there were less than 50 genuine exapmles registered with the AVO Owners Club......

The engine is identical to the one fitted to the Lotus-Cortina Mk2, whether it originally came from an Escort Twin Cam, or not, won't make it any more valuable or sort after, than any other Lotus-Ford Twin Cam engine that came from an Escort, Cortina or Lotus Elan etc..... UNLESS, it's still complete with it's distinctive air-cleaner assembly..... which is unique to the Esccort Twin-Cam and Lotus-Cortina Mk2.Might have to investigate further.

MK2 RS1800 big £..
First off sorry for calling it a Lotus Escort - that was the seller's description. As everyone says it should really be a twin cam, I was using the seller's description. RS1800's do fetch big bucks but then they only made about 100 cars for road use in the first place (for homologation purposes). After that you could only order rally spec cars that were built to order - like the RS 200 in the 80's.
A rally spec one sold for just short of £100k last year and Coy's have a standard RS1800 custom coming up for auction on the 15th Jan with an estimate of £35-£38k.

Mind you have you seen what people are asking for an RS2000 - and they made by thousands of them.

My mate has had a Twin Cam for years, brilliant car and pretty original, the steel wheels are still in the garage but it looks so much better on the Minilites
Lovely looking car, but appears not to be a "Twin Cam" unless its badged wrongly. It clearly has an RS1600 badge on the left rear which makes it the later more common (only compared to original twin cam)non Lotus Ford Cosworth BD A engine which of course confusingly has a twin cam arrangement. IIRC the "Twim Cam" was only in production for 2 years 1968 and 1969 whereas the RS1600 was in production for 4 years or so from 1970. My brother had a "Twin Cam" in the 70s his friend had a RS1600 they looked almost identical especially as wheels and things were changed regularly. One of those almost perfect cars that I so wish had been kept and not sold on .aeropilot said:
Having had a quick look around their website, there's a number of their ads that have very inaccurate and iffy vehicle descriptions - clearly, they have no idea about what they are selling in most cases.
I agree. An American Spec Merc 450 sl (LHD) for 13K, I think not. A Jag MkII 340? it's either a Mk II or it's a 340 but not both; I think what they mean is it's MKII Jag with the 3.4 Litre engine. And what are minolites(sic)? But the best is an Austin Healy 3000. It is described as RHD. Now I am not the world's foremost expert but even I can tell when the steering wheel is on the wrong side. More worryingly the car looks well restored, but if you look at the doors you can see they don't fit well and the shut lines are narrower at the top than the bottom; indicating to me that at best the restoration of this car wasn't that good, or at worst a bent chassis.

Now I've owned one of these and personally, I wouldn't pay £38k for that car; I know it's a fifties sports car, but the doors fit better than this.
e.g. http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2218904.htm or
BTW, this wasn't mine.
