Old American/Australian cars
Discussion
Ok, since I was about 7 I've been fascinated by old cars; Fords and massive old yank/Aussie stuff to be precise but a lot of other metal as well
Came very close to getting this; http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2275659.htm. However, insurance is too much for me to afford alongside my Astra. I'm brave, but not brave enough to use that as a daily
So I'll probably have to wait until roughly this time next year before getting something. It's a shame, as I can't remember the last time a car had such huge appeal (rusty, huge, obscure and foreign... what could possibly go wrong? )
Anyway, I wondered if anybody else has had similar cars at a young age? Is it a ridiculous dream that I'll have to put aside for a good number of years?
Any ideas of vaguely similar cars will be much appreciated an estate (wagon ) is what I'm really after (ok, a full blown muscle car is what I'm REALLY after but I'm trying to keep some vague semblance of reality present!!).

I know it's not American or Australian or a muscle car as such, but large engined BMW E28 5-Series such as the M535i seem to be right old bargains at the moment, such as these...

I don't think you'll get much of interest or with decent performance from America for this sort of money, it's something I have thought about before, and I ended up with a tatty TVR Wedge to get my V8 fix.
I would like to be proved wrong!

Bloody hellfire! That top one looks gorgeous, especially for the money. Must admit that I hadn't really looked at the german metal; presumed that it would all be very expensive for what it is, in the same vein as most British Fords http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2348011.htm

That's very tasty though...

"This car is in good condition it is one of the last E28's of the production line and being an M5 it's very rare"
It's not an M5 in anyway shape or form and it's not really that rare, there are plenty of M535i's for sale at all times of the year, in all kinds of conditions.
Another thing that makes this particular car less rare is the fact that it's one of the standard automatic versions. The rarest of this particular model is the dog leg manual version.
(It does appear to be a nice example from the photographs though!).
Hi,
Have you thought about a Sandman Panelvan....not a real one though. I have owned several of them in my time and done all sorts of trips in them.
The Kingswood is a bit of a lump but the one tonner uterus was a great chassis and easy to work on. But if you have a family, the Kingswood was the way to go.
They came out with the red motor 6 cyl which is indestructable except for the stupid fibre timing gear which can be swapped.
Nice to see someone with a little taste though ;-)
Cheers

Must admit to having a soft spot for American muscle of the late sixties early seventies, but the Australian efforts seemed more appealing in a way, maybe cos they were right hand drive, but looked American.
Here's a few that always caught my eye:-
Chrysler Valiant Charger
Ford Landau
Even Leyland Australia tried to get in on the act with a Rover V8 coupe, the Force 7 which didn't quite get off the ground and so only a handful exist
The saloon version however are plentiful, the P76....V8 the one to have

Love them. Particularly the arses on the XA/B/C coupes - enormous. The Landau above is beautiful.
When I moved to Aus that was an aim - I wanted to grab myself an old bit of Aussie muscle. Of course, that was until I realised the cost of them. So got halfway there with this XA Fairmont with rally pack (snigger). 302ci V8 3 speed auto.
