Just noticed the 'classic forum section' so apologies for the dual post!

I have recently got my 73' Mk1 3000GXL Capri on the road. Can anyone recommend any good classic car insurance specialists please (limited mileage etc the usual specs)... I am getting seemingly ridiculous quotes for circa £90 from the comparison websites but the reviews of said insurers are not great!, so i am doing the rounds to see how policies vary.....thoughts/reviews on a postcard please - thanks!

I'm with Haggerty, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The biggest classic car insurer in the USA now with a UK presence at Silverstone.

+1 very good bunch. I'd suggest contacting a club for the model & seeing if they have a deal going.

Clubs usually have a deal. I'm usually with Lancaster, who did a very good deal on my Dolly Sprint for use as a daily drive to work.

My 635csi is with "RH" (about £160 for 5k mile limit, garaged). http://www.rhclassicinsurance.co.uk/

And the Merc is with Lancaster (about £200 for 5k mile limit, not garaged). http://www.lancasterinsurance.co.uk/

I haven't had to claim with either, so never really tested them, but they were friendly and efficient on the phone.

Does anyone have a policy for multiple cars that they can recommend ?

I've got three classics and two modern cars - each is insured seperately.

There must be a more economical way of insuring.

I'm with Footman James for the Singer, £104pa. Unlimited miles, all the mods declared (it went over two pages of A4 hehe ).

Used them for years without any problems, although never needed to claim.

I couldn't find anyone who could insure my 03 Alfa, 91 VW, 83 BMW & 71 MGB together for a reasonable amount.
I insured my Alfa with the cheapest on MoneySupermarket.
RH Insurance did me a really good deal with Classic cover for the other 3.

Not well known, but I use Locktons in London. Perhaps for you in the UK not the cheapest (but perhaps yes at the same time) since I have a 12 month green card on the three cars. But stripping out the cost of these green cards, I pay about £600 p.a. if my calculation is correct. The policy includes breakdown insurance, which I needed this year and to which they responded magnificently. I'd recommend them for their service, so give them a try; I've been using them for years.

We were with Lancaster for a while with various classics. My TVR was insured through Adrian Flux, can't remember the insurer though.. Just had a decent quote through Flux for the Mini, I think the insurer was Kinetic underwriting. The cover seems pretty comprehensive but I'm going to have a quick ring round some of the Mini specialists in the magazines to see what they're offering.

I'm with RH for my 72 Alfa GTV, I've found them to be excellent above and beyond what you would expect on service and when I needed to claim they paid out with no quibbles right up to the the 'touch and go' value of write off/repair.

Footman James here too; they quoted me £700 vs. ~£2,000 everywhere else.

Haggerty. Hope that I don't have to switch to another Company next time around. So often Insurance lure you in and then hope you will stay for year 2 at an increased price.

footman james here, you can add cars to your policy as long as they are around the same value, but then your limited mileage is shared between the cars smile

Mine's with Peter Best - daily use modified, UK and Europen breakdown cover and UNlimited milage all at no extra charge

I'm very pleased with them and a very good price

You do have to ring them office hours or better still fill in the boxes at the bottom of the home page and get them to ring you back - http://www.peterjamesinsurance.co.uk/

Lancaster for me and the XJS .... 10,000 mile/year policy for under £300 and my license isn't spotless.

Had to use the recovery that comes with it once and they were brilliant.
