I have briefly looked at the other fora and can't see anything, but if this is a duplicate post please forgive me.

I was saddened to go to the local bar yesterday and see a quarter page obituary for Tom. I knew he had been ill but even last season he was working in Australia, so his death from cancer has come as a great shock. He will for ever be remembered for his running of the Silk Cut Jaguars, with their two wins here at Le Mans in 1988 and 1990, plus the Daytona 24 hour and so many others. Did many of you know that the Joest team took on the chassis for 1996 with Porsche power? With well over 1,000 employees at his peak, he was a great force in the racing world and will be sadly missed. My condolences to his family.

Tom was born and raised a few miles from me and cut his teeth racing at the local, now defunct Ingliston circuit. A huge personality who will be sadly missed.

but he must also be credited with giving Damon Hill a reasonable car after Williams dumped him and also those Volvo estates in touring cars as well. A Great man , RIP Tom.
