I need to buy a new battery for my Mk2 Jag.

I've found one or two companies making the original style of battery but they seem very expensive and I'm not that much of a purist.

On the other hand I don't fancy a dayglo yellow item staring at me from under the bonnet. Can anyone recommend a good modern battery that won't look too out of place ?

Thanks

Place I worked at we stopped buying Exide because they just wouldn't last. Amazed they find it possible to offer a three year warranty, because we were lucky if they lasted six months.

Lincoln manufacture the best battery for the application you mention, but do not use same with an alternator conversion as it could suffer excess gassing, resulting in paintwork damage. Most batteries these days are sealed with a vent tube.

I've been very happy with the Halfords own-brand batteries in my cars - most have lasted well and the few that haven't have failed well INSIDE the free replacement period and always been replaced without quibble.

I'm not going to comment on the make, but a friend who sells batteries made the comment that what he sells as his low range batteries are sold by Halfrauds as their high range ones. His prices are also cheaper. On another point, don't forget to disconnect for the winter - mine in the E-type (bought from same frien) has lasted 8 years so far for this reason. Oh, and apparently the screw type battery cut outs are not really advisable he tells me, since they are a poor conduit when under full load, leading to premature battery failure. He, like me, just slackens the bolt (all terminals are somewhat oval) and leaves it removable but not truly bolted on. That way I don't need a spanner to disconnect in winter - I just twist and take it off. Works for me.
