Bank holiday, wind, rain - you know how it is. so I'm watching an old film and this showed up. Sorry for the poor picture but I froze the screen and took a picture. I have absolutely no idea as to what it might be. The hub caps seemed to sport a BMW propeller, but I'm not sure. Anyone able to help?

It's a Frazer Nash Targa Florio.

'XMC 1' was originally on a 1951 Frazer Nash Drophead Coupe, sold new to Mrs Kitty Maurice in the USA.

In 1955, 'MAM 437' was then registered to the Drophead, and 'XMC 1' was transferred to a new Le Mans Coupe that also belonged to her.

Factual nugget: Kathleen (Kitty) Maurice was a motorsport enthusiast, and the landowner of the Castle Combe site when it held its first race meeting.

The film was Park Plaza 605, 1963. Probably turn up on Sky again, and again, and again and..........zzzzzzzzz. Buttt who is behind he 4CV?

And thanks to torquespeak for supplying the abswer. The grille was familiar but I got stuck on an Allard or Armstrong Siddeley track.

torquespeak - what a fantastically detailed answer, any more details, such as Kitty's inside leg measurement or the name of her pets?

you'll need to turn the telly round I can only see the girl in front of the car biggrin

she'd be 60 at least now

ETA: it's a 1953 film so she would have been 87 if she's Eva Bartok

Inside leg was probably about 30in to get to the pedals in a Frazer Nash...

Think she had a dog named Jeremy.

Pleasure as always.

It is Eva Bartok. She was born in June 1927 so was 26 when the film was made. She died in 1998

Actually old sport, it's RHD, therefore it was known as a Renault 750. The 4CV designation was reserved for the French-built cars. There are fewer that 40 or so of either type left in the UK, though fortunately more in France.
