Owned a couple of 9's & restored a few 7's, 8's & 9's for a particular client.
There are three watchwords...................rust, rust & rust!
They will rust anywhere & everywhere, however good it looks, it will be rusty somewhere!
Other thing to watch for on an unrestored one is lead 'blow', where the factory lead starts balooning out of the seams - most notable the rear roof seams & around fuel fillers - to rectify correctly is an extremely involved process.
Other than that...........they're lovely motors

Looks great
The big killer for these old girls is that body work costs far more to do than the car is ever going to be worth. I don't suppose rust is such a big thing in Oz.
You might want to look at the saloons group on Jag-Lovers. Certainly the XK group has lots on members in Australia, I'd guess the saloon group will do too, anyway people there should be able to give you specific things to look out for on the Mk7/8/9s

That's a great price, works out to £5600 tops. Gotta be worth it.

Your client doesn't live in Neath does he? How's life Nick? All fine?

You keeping busy? Everything ok?
Frankly, judging by the photos alone, the indicated price is a bargain. The price of the big saloons has been on the up for a few years now, with prices of up to £40,000 being asked for a really good one. But as always. if it could rust it has done, so go through it carefully. Mechanically tough, but since it has been standing for some time expect dry gaskets and leaks. Oh, and check the transmision.
I love the originality of the interior. The woodwork, from the photographs, looks good, as does the bakelite steering wheel. And it still has its leaper on the bonnet - I have seen a number of these bound for the scrapyard and the leaper has always been pinched.
This is from the heart you understand - I can't advise you on restoration etc - but that has got to be a superb appreciating asset, and if you have somewhere to keep it, I suggest you go for it.
Finally, in no way should you go classic circuit racing as the auctioneer suggests.
