I have a S3 Land rover. It's current taxation class is PLG, and so I pay the standard rate of tax on it. It was registered in February 1973, but I have a dating certificate from the heritage centre saying that it was made in 1972, I reckon this means it should qualify as a 'historic' vehicle, and free road tax.

How car I get the taxation class changed? Do I really have to visit my local DVLA centre or can I do it by post?

Cheers, sorry if this is a repost I did do a search!

Just go along to your local DVLA office and they change it, then a few weeks later you get a nice shiney new tax-free log-book in the post. smile

Thanks for the replies. Guess I'll have to take a day off work and do it.

As Vixen say's that's how to do it in theory, I had loadsa problems getting 'Historic' for my 1970 Lotus 7.
It took my local MP to persuede DVLA to change it for me.
Good luck

I changed my old kit car over to historic and it couldn't have been simpler. Popped into my local DVLA office, saw a nice girl who took my log book and tax disc off me, printed me a new tax disc and said a cheque for you current tax will be in the post as well as a new V5 with historic on it. These both came through about 3 weeks later.

OK, will try and do it sooner rather then later, as it has 6 months paid-for tax on it at the moment.
