Ultrasonic baths
Discussion
Hi - I recently bought a Triton digital Ultrasonic Cleaner TRUSR503 (4 l, stainless Steel). I don't know if this model is available in the US?
I bought it, along with 5 gallons of the recommended descaling additive, for cleaning carbs and small parts. I must admit I am very disappointed with its performance. Despite cleaning more than once at the highest temperature and with a high concentration of additive it has had very little effect on a set of six scaled Weber IDFs. I suspect I would have got better results simply by heating them in a mild citric acid (lemon juice) solution.
I am certain there are good baths available - but this model isn't one of them.

I can't help with the bigger versions, but I have a small one for cleaning odds & sods - glasses, degreasing electrical components etc, & it is quite effective. However, even with hot water & cleaning solution, it takes a comparatively bl**dy long time, & I imagine for lumps of car there are quicker methods (as you suggest.)
If you've got some time to waste I've known people make their own, such as in this thread over on a classic bike forum http://www.classicbikeforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=...
