Does anybody know if a Morris Minor 948cc head is the same as the 1098 one?

Thanks

Fairly sure it isn't; the 1098 in my father's old clubman had a 12G202 from memory (hmm, is that good or bad?!)... played about with a 12G940 on top of that after a good read of the Vizard A Series book.... Anyway, that matches up with a random Google, finding this (which looks about right):

There are basicly 2 types of a series engine, big and small. 1275's and copper s are big. the rest are small. any head from a small engine should fit a 1098, although the compression ratio will need sorting out. If i remember correctly the 1098 engine needs much bigger combustion chambers than a 998. not sure about the 948. an mg 1100 heaq is the one to use 12g295 if you can find one these days. if it hasn't been on a 998 engine it will fit straight on.

The difference between a 2A629 948 cylinder head and a 12G202 1098 cylinder head is a larger combustion chamber and larger inlet valves. Otherwise the heads are inter-changeable, although fitting a 948 head to a 1098 engine would be a bit of a step backwards.

The ports are different as well; the 12G202 has larger, square inlet ports with a locating ring for the manifold. The 202 is probably the best of the closed chamber heads (which isn't saying much, they all flow quite poorly ).
