A friend of my father in law has had an E Type project on the go for many years - possibly 20 or more.
This chap has failing health and is unlikely to complete it. Now, I've always wanted an E Type and this could be an opportunity for me, but where do I start in value? Are the values of these cars on the rise again? I'm a bit out of touch now I'm in NZ.
Basics I know are its approx 1970-72 Series 2 RHD roadster, all complete in one piece, and dry stored with private ongoing restoration. It hasn't been on the road for years but is in the hands of a Jaguar enthusiast. It may need tinkering to finish or start again and do it properly. This I will need to look at should the chance arise. Now if this chance does come about, whats it worth? It is New Zealand so does that has an influence in price? I would just like to know a fair indication so I know whether to save up or not!

Really, it depends on how far the project is down the road. You say the car is complete but - is it rusty, is the engine good; so many questions. The series 2 (which it must be given the dates) are less loved than the earlier six cylinder cars but without further details it sn't really possible to value. It must be said though that it is the thinking man's E-type, having better brakes and cooling than an earlier car. A complete wreck with identity is about £10,000 though, and I saw a 3.8 which hadn't run for 20 years, needing a respray and dents knocked out but a complete car, sold for £31,000 at Silverstone in July. sorry I can't help you further.

ETA: photos of car sold at Silverstone.

That is the help I need thanks, a ballpark figure is great. If it's worth £10,000 all day long then that's my starting point. Anything less than that is a bonus, more would be obviously dependant on my budget and the work involved. I will try and get more info and post it here.

If its a 1970-72 year or manufacture then its a series 3 surely?

Whoops, series 2 isn't it? - I'll fix it.
