Does any one have experience of a Mk2 fitted with a Webasto roof. How much wind noise is there with it closed? Can you use it open at cruising speeds?
Any comments welcome.
I can't decide whether to fit one or not.

I've got one on my mini.
No problem opening it at speed. There's a bit of wind noise from the leading edge when closed, but nothing dramatic (not that I can hear it anymore since stripping the interior...). The roof is also pretty good open at speed with the visor adjusted to stop the airflow hitting the folds.

Where are you sourcing a roof from?

For god's sake don't cut a hole in the roof of your car! I've had Webasto's over the years and closed there's not much extra noise and open, with the deflector fitted, you can cruise at 70mph with obviously extra noise but not too bad. What's wrong with turning the quarterlights right round to give you "air conditioning"? I think you are risking spoiling your car, and over the years risking blocked gutters around the sunroof and rust setting in.

I agree it seems a shame to cut a Webasto into a car now. A couple of other issues to consider is the car will probably be worth slightly less or be harder to sell with a Webasto, and getting the headlining right can be tricky (generally speaking - not sure specifically about Mk2s).

My Alfa has a Webasto (I didn't care if it had one or not) and I must admit I have always been impressed that it has been 100% watertight. And in town or slow moving traffic on hot days, it does make a huge difference to keeping the cabin cooler.

OK, you've convinced me, no Webasto, I was only half thinking of it.

I would entirely agree with the other comments - possible loss of value is quite likely as I have had nine of these in Mk2 and V8 form and the presence of a Webasto or lesser roof having been inserted often deterred buyers.

That said, roof fully retracted its almost like having a convertible four seater......

Another answer to early air conditioning , probably not going to look right on an old British car though.
