Short and sweet,
I want a grill for my MGB, new ones are to expensive, how much (approx) to get a used one re-chromed?
Can anyone recommend a 're-chromer' they've used?

TBH, it would probably work out more expensive than buying a new one, especially if the old one is at all rusty or pitted. Stuff that is being chromed has to be completely clean and blemish-free, which would be tricky to achieve with a radiator grille.

I agree with gaspode, bought mine from MGBhive at wisbech for 70 pounds, or try ebay.

To get good chrome it is all in the preparation, which costs. Your old one would need to be stripped polished, copper plated, polished then chromed. This is very labour intensive to do well especially on old metal, £70 for a new grille sounds a bargin if it is good quality

A bit of a guess, but having had a pile of things (window frames, steering wheel spokes, spotlight rings) done for £120 I guess you may be looking in that sort of range.

I bought a new Frogeye grille that rusted through the plating because the plating was crap so I'd go for having the original re plated.

If it's steel (not brass) they need to do nickel, copper, chrome not just copper - nickel seals the steel before putting the rest on.

I'd prefer an old one properly plated than a new one that rusts - if you buy a new one ask the supplier to confirm they do nickel first (if it's steel)
