Did anyone go to the Silverstone Classic show this year? and if so did you take any pics of the drag racing display?

Reason for asking is it's a few friends of mine that did the display and despite 1,000s of people walking around with massive cameras around their necks we can't find any pictures of the drag racing anywhere.

Sorry, it was right behind the Jaguar clubs displays and all it did was annoy us by setting off a car alarm every time a car went down the strip! No, I didn't take a photo because I was tracxkside most of the time.

Therein lies a story. I am a bit tired of the C-type after a year of driving it so decided to bring the D-type which hasn't had much use in the last year. Now with camera gear, sleeping bag, luggage etc., two into one didn't go, so out came the E-type. Well, battery flat, it needed a jump start, then it ran on six and ticked over on four. Float chamber stuck. Time ticking by, ferry awaiting so I chanced it and loaded the old gal to the gunwhales and hit the motorway. The dear old gal responded magnificently, cleared her throat and cruised beautifully at 90 all the way to Le Havre; well, that is except for the moment when I had a Beemer stuck to my ass so I eased her up to 100 and then back to 90. He's still glued to me so I floored it to an indicated 130 and he was well gone - didn't dare I guess. That was the end of the running problems, and in one week I did 900 miles without missing a beat, no oil consumption and 24mpg. Now I need a brake fluid change and there is a fuel leak somewhere. It never ends does it?

Oh, and may I compliment the traffic on the way from Silverstone to Winchester? With speed cameras about as current as the dodo now I put on the headlights and cruised at 100mph down the A43, M40 and A34. People moved over to let me pass and never a BIB in sight. Top down, lovely weather, I couldn't have wished for better!

That sounds like a bit of a dilemma , nothing more sobering than knowing the ferry won't wait for you is there ? a bit like my near miss in 07 returning from LM , we thought we would cut across country from Chanteloup and pick the main road up to Caen (the Sat Nav would sort it all out) , then catch the ferry at Cherbourg no problem or so I thought..turned out the 100 mile box - area of farmland we needed to cross was completely unchartered by my tom tom and worse still not signed up at all with little logic behind the road directions going off at tangents all the time. After losing around one and a half hours we finally came out at a recognisable road but very marginal on time , and running low on fuel just to compound things , we had the dilemma - stop for petrol but risk missing the ferry or hope the sender unit was a pessimist , luckily it was , we JUST made it , the very last car on and it sailed the very minute we boarded , so marginal it was untrue.

The A34 was unnaturally easy after Silverstone , living South of Reading I have a few options on getting back but usually give up on the A34 junction preferring the easy run down the M40 to Marlow then double back up the M4 to Wokingham area , with an old car that hates traffic - overheats , jumpy clutch etc it's just far easier but on this occasion the A34 was a breeze.

I love you Jaguar chaps chatter, quick blasts at 130, overheating etc. always read it even though I'm not one of the gang wink Tony I promised to drop in and see you when I next visit Le Mans, and I will, unfortunatly because of work (oh how that gets in the way of my hobbies) I missed it this year, the Classic that is, but no doubt I will be in Le Sarthe some time in the near future. Cheers Rich...

What's all this VW enthusiast business, that's twice in two days and I've never even owned a bloody VAG car wobble ...and hang on, you're that dodgy bloke who was obsessing about what 60's style of Jackie Stewart cloth cap to wear for a photo shoot with your Cortina... As you say a broad church wink

Yes , yes , yes , guilty on all counts (except the "dodgy" one) , the obsession runs deep as with many people with various marques on here , hopefully I will never have a loft with a train set layout or a complete set of mint boxed collectors die cast of my car that never see the light of day in case the light fades them or the cardboard wears slightly , I like to play with my toys !

So ,anyone seen any photo's of these drag cars then ?

Having spent the entire weekend with the rally display, the only photos I have of the drag cars are with them in the background (sorry!). Here's what I have, though:
