In the mid-late seventies I owned a 1970 Mk1 Capri 3000GT (DGO 525H).

The marketing of the Capri introduced the concept of 'option packs', and most had 'L', 'XL', or 'XLR' levels of trim.
And it was generally the case that, the bigger the engine the more options it was likely to have.

But mine was a 3000GT. No options.

It did not have spotlights, reversing lights, over-riders, dummy air-vents, wing-mirrors, vinyl roof, black sills or black rear panel. The grille was silver, not black.
It had a plastic (not leather) steering wheel, and a bench rear seat.
It didn't even have a heated rear window or a dipping interior mirror.

Being a 'GT' it did have the six-dial dash and Rostyle wheels.
And it was in a rare (unpopular) colour: 'Light Orchid' - light metallic pink.

It wasn't long before the V6 versions became the 3000E, biggest engine with all the goodies - a logical package.

I have never seen another Mk1 Capri, in any colour, with the 'big engine, poverty spec' combination that mine had.

Has anybody else?

Poverty spec V6 GT's like yours were more common in that first year, but probably only that first 1970 year, as by 71-72 most were as you say GT XL or usually XLR spec.
By the time you got yours therefore it was quite rare already, and nowadays I would think virtually extinct in a spec like that.

IIRC a mate of mine had a metallic pink 1300GT Capri, now that was a bit slow with more weight than a cortina....

That's what I thought. I really liked it; without all the exterior 'trinkets' it was a bit of a Q-car. Ok, it had the bonnet bulge and twin tail-pipes, but at first glance it looked like a basic 1300/1600 with Rostyles.

Didn't get much flak for having a pink car either (actually it was nearer to silver), this was the Seventies (the decade that taste forgot) and Cortina 1600Es (very cool cars at the time) were also produced in this colour.

I had a vague memory of a pro-celeb race at Brands when the car was launched,
did a quick you-tube search:

Light Orchid and Saluki Bronze , actually quite restrained and subtle colours - think of the Daytona Yellow , Lime Green and Orange Escorts , we got away lightly !

Not forgetting 'Blue Mink' and 'Silver Fox', which had a tendency to peel off over time.
