Lack of grunt

Have now found that my 1926 Vauxhall 14/40 has not quite enough grunt for towing my vintage Eccles caravan, which I guess weighs something short of one ton. (gutted) So my 14/40 is up for sale and search is on for replacement. I have seen the Vauxhall 20/60 currently for sale and am tempted, except the asking price is to strong for me, maybe it will be reduced in good time. It features straight cut gears, will this make an jot of difference to towing? I have asked in Engines and Drive trains forum also.
