Help solve this pre-war tourer mystery!
Discussion
Hi all!
Can anybody tell me what car this is? It took part in a hill climb in the north of France, but we have really no idea what it is! Please help! Any info is welcome!
SOLVED, thanks to friederich: Salmson S4 (possibly rebodied) 1928-1931
UPDATE: according to the Salmson registrar: 1929 Salmson S4, rebodied in the UK as a British-style tourer.
All the best and thanks!

You might get an answer here, failing that you need to ask on www.prewarcar.com or The Automobile magazine.

It's a French Salmson S4 - 1300cc twincam engine, made between approx 1928 and 1931. This one looks like it's been rebodied - they usually have heavier bodies than this.
Thanks a lot! So it's the first series S4. I think we hadn't identified this car ourselves - no clue where to start! Thanks again! You seem to know a bit about Salmson . I have this one in my archives as well, but what Salmson S4-series is this?
Thanks!

I'm more familiar with the earlier AL/VAL series Salmsons, but I think that this is an S4C. A good source for info on these would be the French owner's club, the Amicale Salmson. I think they have a pretty good website. Thanks!

It is confirmed by the Salmson registrar: 1929 Salmson S4, rebodied in the UK with a British-style tourer-body. So you were quite right actually!Gassing Station | Classic Cars and Yesterday's Heroes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
