Good afternoon all,

The MOT on my Morris 8 expired before winter, and I'll be looking to get it re-certified shortly. Does anyone have any recommendations for garages in York or the surrounding area that are familiar with performing MOTs on Classic/Vintage cars? I know that is exempt from quite a number of elements on test, but want to make sure that I go to a garage that knows this too!

Thanks,

Tom

Try to find a local classic car club they might be able to point you in the direction of a knoledgeable garage. If it helps I use a MOT station that only does MOT's and they do seem to know their stuff and don't seem to mind me asking questions or me watching them do the test.

I can't help with a particular outfit. But what I can say is make sure you understand the rules and inform them if they are wrong. They have a big book with all the rules in it so they can check. Make sure they understand that there will more play in all things like suspension and steering. Generally it is easy to get MOT's on vintage cars as the tester know that these cars are looked after and driven less than most modern cars. Most testers I have come across know the rules and will not fail if it is exempt.

Thanks for the replies all, there's a little work to do on it before I'll be happy to submit it for its MOT, but you've been very helpful. I shall take a potter out to Newton when I'm next on the bike so I know where to find you.

Thanks,
Tom

I just wanted to say thanks to all at Greenway Garage for excellent service (and the tour of your showroom). I'm very pleased to be back on the road.

Thanks,
Tom
