Theres something about the SD1 I agree - the large proportions and (assuming you have the V8 version) threatening sound that it might just be an animal underneath.

As a kid there was a chap who used to regularly impress the local ladies with his SD1 V8 with its cherry bomb'd exhaust and lowered suspension. I thought it was the dogs danglers at the time, and he got his fair share of 'rewards' out of it (considering he was a bit of gimp wink )

For some reason Im kind of hankering after a Dolly Sprint, and I kick myself that I didnt buy a really pretty red Lotus Elan +2, the prices seem to have leapt up, and despite never having really been near one, the body styling and the interior are just great to look at.

Time to go and get on with some more tasks on the car I have got.

Naa, SD1s like that are for pussys. You need one with a proper engine in it...http://www.ppcmag.co.uk/rover-sd1-27-litre-v12.html

I think that is exactly what he was saying.

Don't knock it if it works.

Build quality not quite as good as Zastava.
Even the ugliest old brass can look good when you`ve had too much to drink. I`d rather own a combine harvester.More reliable.
Too many head seizures on the 6 ,the 8 was slightly better.Still awful.

You obviously haven't driven one of my combines. smile

(My current score is barley 2 combines 0)

On the plus side, the current spell of weather means that the money I've saved on grain drying costs will pay for the new parts on the combines.

I saw one last week heading towards Norwich and to be honest it did not look that dated.

That's a Vitesse isn't it ? He says showing his age. The black rubber rear spoiler (with Vitese written on it IIRC) and deeper from air dam giving being the clues.

I've got the urge to get another Vitesse. I had one a few years back, and a 2600S before that. They are great fun to drive, very friendly handling with oversteer on demand at quite low speeds thanks to all the torque. They look great too, especially in Black or Moonraker Blue. But there are a lot of rubbish ones out there, so you need to shop carefully. Also of the 200 or so twin plenum Vitesses made, about 400 of them survive! scratchchin

Was that in Stourport-on-Severn in the mid 80s?

Thank goodness for that. My parents had an SD1 with Cherry Bomb and lowered suspension and was starting to question my dad's fidelity....Imagine how that conversation would start....
