Have you ever sold a car and now regret it?
I guess I'm a little different as I used to have a classic car sales business, but there are a couple of cars I really wish I'd never sold (it hurts even more when you know how much they cost) frown

1st - 1978 Jaguar XJ12 Series 2 in Sable Brown

2nd - 1988 Ford Escort XR3i in Meteor Grey ( a real timewarp car, 42k from new 1 owner, etc)

3rd - 1989 VW Golf GTI Mk2 in White, blade bumpers and looked like it had just rolled out of the 80's!

I was worse than that Matt, in my case it was "what car do you regret letting go to ruin and nearly giving away"

1988 VW Jetta 16v. A real Q car for what it was. Shame really.

Selling one of my classics - TVR 3000M - did not appreciate what I had at the time...she was totally reliable , effortless performance , no mechanical or electrical niggles , clean chassis and interior was new....

Currently 'classicless' but hoping soon to sell the house and any change might go towards another classic...TVR/Triumph/MGB ..soon I hope !!

Starting to look now , but a hard act to follow..

Regards
Brian

My 1967 Volvo 1800S. This picture must have been taken around 1993 or so.

Sold it to fund my travelling in 1996, but needn't have in the end. It could have just been kept in my parent's garage until I got back. frown

My Griff500. It was so bloody good! Still can't believe you can buy those looks, that noise, that performance, for that price. Never missed a beat either. Had to sell to go racing but I will have another one day. I promise myself!

Lovely Griff , Lovely Colour , what was it called ? I too ,deeply regret letting my Decatted Mallard Pearl Blue 96 Griff 500 go in early 08 , the G.50 3.2 Carrera i had next turned into an Expensive Smokey Top end Rebuild needed Disaster .
Highlights of my all to brief time with Griff included 2 Great German Trips , one to the Black Forest and an incredible dice with a young Jacko in his Blue Very Non standard Impretza . He came up behind me ,turbos Spooling up smirk on his face expecting me to pull over and let him by , but i blew his doors off . The look on his face had to be seen to be beleived , he obviously hadnt come up against anything else quicker than his chav mobile. I will never forget the Awesome Top End Power the Griff had . I am getting another soon and cant wait. I also deeply regret seling my Orig 98 Yamaha R-1 in 08, it had Full Ohlins Suspension and i virtually gave it away .

1964 Hillman Imp with 998cc engine, Sport head, R17 camshaft, 4-branch exhaust, close-ratio box, Corbeau seat, rollcage, Dunlop D1 alloys and lowered all round. Sold in 1975 for a pittance.

1989 Porsche 944 2.7. Sold in 2004, bought a rather nice old Martin D18 with the proceeds but to this day cannot play it without feeling guilty!

And if my slide into poverty continues - 1994 Eunos RS. Trying to put that one off as long as possible though, having learnt from the above two experiences.

There is something about them that people who have never owned one cannot
understand. They are more than just a car & i will probably never drive another car like it unless i buy another one.

My 970cc Cooper S, heavily tuned with a straight cut box, it would happily rev to 10k, very high maintenance, but shed loads of fun.

Lovely Cooper S , what happened to it ? I to deeply regret selling my Red/Black Roof 1275S in 1997, YHK-82L where are you now ?
Noticed the Stingray , very nice . Another HUGE Regret is letting my 69 Daytona Yellow/Black trim Stingray 350/350 4 Speed Coupe go in 1995. I bought it from a Dealer in Sarasota , Florida from Corvette Trader while on Holiday in 1991. Originally a California Car and stored for years , her Chassis was As New. I replaced and built a Hot Eddelbrock Equiped Engine , Lowered Uprated front springs and stupidly sold/Gave her away for £5,500 in 1995 to finance a 3.8 E-Type purchase ( what a dog that was) to a trader called Spong from Romford who was shipping Corvettes to a Dealer in France, where they were makeing far more money. She needed a repaint so may well be a different colour now.
Would love to know where she is now . I have Mailed Corvette Club France , but how ridiculous, they dont keep a Chassis/Vin No. Register of Corvettes. My one was 10277 , built Dec 1968 . She realy was a nice Example.
What happened to "Night Hawk" the Famous Black 69 427 that had an amazeing Custom Paint Job by Mech Spray .? She was featured in Custom Car in the Mid 7os , think that she went up north and was White.

It was called various names, typically all common Tiv related. Trev, Griff, etc..Grunty was the name that suited it best. You mention your R1. Never owned a bike but the Griff went to make way for a hillclimb 1370cc GSXR Jedi Mk1. Tough call but the Griff was too good an example to use in motorsport. Griff 500 = 339bhp per ton. Jedi = 726bhp per ton! Two different ways to get your thrills. Biggest problem is once you've tried either you come to the conclusion that the only real answer is to have both!
