Hi All

I am thinking of going this week to the show, driving from the West Country to Essen, has anybody been to the show and is it worth going, or is it just like the NEC classic shows? Any pointers would be great, thanks.

The show is amazing and cannot be compared to the NEC show as its much larger and has so many halls ( and an outside area of cars for sale) that its a real stuggle to see it all in one day...i can also say teh whole organisation is much better including the food and the displays are stunning....not sure if the current economic climate may affect it but there is always stuff that u would not see anywhere else...its not a German show( or just a German show) as its more of a regional show with folk from all over Europe including lots from Holland and France...Essen is a bit of a industrial dump but near by Dusseldorf is great and i stayed here and went in by train...the hotel sold me a regional train/bus ticket for the day for 2 Euro.. there is also lots of car related stuff like artwork and sculture and a autojumble...i cannot reccommend it enough and a must for all petrolheads.

I have been to show every year for the last 9 years - but not this year. The main problem I had was the crowds of people. After about 11am there are so many people that not only is it difficult to see the cars but it simply becomes uncomfortable. Over the whole period some 160,000 people attend. For the last 3 years I tried to solve the problem by paying extra (its not much) & going on the first day. But you can only attend between 4PM & 8PM & thats simply to short a time to see everything. And the show is orientated (but not by much) towards German products.Mercedes,BMW etc always have the biggest exhibits. If you have never gone before its worth a visit but get there as earliest as possible ie. 9AM

I have been for last few years and it's not to be missed

I fly to Dusseldorf, get taxi to Essen and stay in a Holiday Inn there (about 20 mins by tube to the venue)

A great weekend and not expensive - this show blows the NEC Classic into the weeds! (even though I enjoy that too)

Went this year for the first time, an epic trip, been promising to do it for a long time. The only advice I would give is that it IS possible to see in one day if you choose Thursday (first public day, quieter) or Friday (longest day, just treat the crazy midday crowds as a "recce" period and go take your photographs unhindered in the last 3 hours).
