What topless pre-73 (pref 60s) classic does 15k buy these days?

I can think of any number of coupes that could buy - might even stretch to a ropey Porsche 356. But in roadsters, I'm struggling to think of anything that gets anywhere near the Alfa Romeo Spyder Duetto (boat tail).

Lotus Elan, MG Midget (ok 5k buys one of these) or A/B. Frogeye Sprite of course.

What else is there? Jags are all out of reach.

That Corvette is gorgeous. Not what I had in mind at all but the more I look, the more I like.

There were so many great looking cars in the 60s - I guess what I really want is something with the looks of an Aston but in roadster format and cheap. Not easy.

In coupe form, the Alfa GT Junior is one of my favourite shapes. That's got what I consider to be an oustanding amount of cool for the cash. Good to drive too.

TR6 I'm afraid does nothing for me.

I can't see the budget stretching to a Tiger, but an oddball choice might be to look for a good Alpine. Few around and not too expensive. Open cars are expensive and classic cars in general seem to have hit stratospheric prices now (just look at Escorts for example). Modified Midgets and Sprites abound well under this price, with 1275cc engines and disc brakes which give a lot of fun for your money but not really a touring car. I guess the default choice would be to look for a reshelled MGB which are numerous, some warmed up too. There'a rebuilt V8 roadster fully rebuilt and reshelled on page 204 of Octane within the budget and a recommended and tried B on page 195 of Classic & Sports Car at £6,500

I had a 69 ( Dec 68 Built ) Stingray T-Top 350 CU 4 Speed in Daytona Yellow that i bought and imported from Florida in Sept 91. As a Kid i was Bessoted by them .
It was Totally Rot Free and had Orig been a Califonia Car , it threw a Rod about 2 miles from my then home in Romford when i was driveing it back from the Docks .
I built an Edelbrock Equiped Very Hot Engine for it . I Absolutely adored that car , very quick in a straight line , it handled well but it was dissapointing to drive , Grossly Overweight , Difficult to see out of and place in corners . I also had a 5 GT Turbo at the time .
I very reluctantly sold it at a big loss to finance the purchase of my first E an Opal Blue 62 E-Type FHC ( Huge Mistake) in 1995 to a Dealer in Colier Row who was for a time shipping Corvettes to France , as they were makeing good money out there .
I intend to try to contact the French Corvette Club to see if it is on there list and poss still in France . Would have it back tomorrow . Vin No. was 10277 , if that is familier to anyone out there ?

You would get a Rover V8 engined cobra for that money no problems, if you were lucky you might get an american V8 but it would probably need tidying up etc, check the classifieds there are a few on there.
