Hello,

Anyone got any experience with light weight trolley jacks?
I want one to carry in my Healey, but not my normal one as it’s quite heavy.
There are several types on the WWW but the price range is huge.
I suppose you get what you pay for.
Any help / suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Have got a couple of the Clarke alloy race jack (below), whilst I wouldn’t recommend it for a busy workshop, it is suitable for DIY use and seems more sturdy than the cheap steel jacks, yet they are rated at only 1 ¼ ton, whilst most steel ones are rated at 2, not a problem if your simply jacking one side of a big Healy up

The only fault I've encountered with them, is some of the screws and bolts that hold the small handles onto the side, have become loose and needed a dab of thread lock smile

Costco have them for approx £15-20 less than Machine Mart

I have had a small steel 2ton Halfords jack for a wee while now and it is ideal for changing wheels and small jobs. If height is an issue it maybe a bit high, I think it is 140/150mm at its lowest. At a shop sale I also picked up 2 folding axle stands which are also handy if you need to support the car whilst off the ground as they don't take up much room.

Thanks all for your replies.

What I’m after is a light weight jack to carry in the boot of my Healey, when away on long trips.
What I have now is a scissor jack and axle stand.
Had a very very close call with a scissor jack as a kid, (young, dumb and stupid!!) and have never been keen on them since!!
I think as this would be long term ownership stuff, I’m not too concerned on price, If you know what I mean but will not spend stupid money.

I’ll update when I decide or find what I’m looking for.

Thanks to you all.

Sam

There was a long running thread about these some months ago on another part of PH. Not sure where, may just have been GG. They weren't getting the best of reviews unfortunately for whatever I cannot recall. Try a search.
