Gordon Spice Daytona Yellow Capri 3000 GT/E Avon Tour 1973
Discussion
Ime remember reading a really good write up on the 73 Avon Tour of Britain in one of the many old Motor Sport Mags that i used to have in approx early 1982. The thing that really got me about that Article was Gordon Spices Epic drive in his Yellow 3000 GT or E Capri , up against James Hunt in his Monster of a Camaro and i beleive a very potent BMW 3.0 SI Saloon and a Gaggle of other Capris .
As a 20 year old , I was driveing my first car then ,an identical looking and very quick Gorgeous 1972 Capri 3000GT IN Daytona Yellow , with a black vinle roof and slideing Vinle sunroof ( which was the cause of a bad accident i had in it )it had a very hot engine in it and i had bought it off a then mate and couldnt beleive how quick it was when late one Summer night in 1981 on my way home we had a race. I was on my Green Kawasaki Z.900 ( NNM 314P) and had been knocked off it a couple of days before by a Silly Woman in a red Volvo 340 who pulled out in front of me in a College car park at Barnet , my Z 9 went under the front of her Ruddy Volvo and this had bent the Fork Yokes and caused other damage (and probably started the painfull Arthritus i am now suffering from badly as well) I couldnt do more than ... on my Z as it kept going into frightening tank slappers and my pal in the Capri was a foot from my rear Pirreli Phantom tyre.
I had been thinking of getting off bikes and into a car and my mum and Late father had had two 3 Litre Capris and i really did like them , they were very common then and were cheap speed ( i had 6 mk1s in total dureing the 80s) and the next day i said i would have it from him for £550 , (insureance was £450 !and i got about £985 for the Z ) ( EVC 289L Where are you now ? if only i hadnt swapped you complete with your stoved in rear quarter for that Damson 1970 TR6 with the Bent chassis , at that Cowboy Dealers in Croydon in June 82, and i got pinched on the way down there for haveing a dirty front no. plate (chain lube on it) and no tax!!
After reading that Motor Sport article i thought i was a young Gordon Spice... Does any one have any idea were i can view a clear picture of Spices Capri ? I beleive it was a K Reg , film of the tour is on You Tube , but no close ups of the Capri .

Hi DBSV8 and thank you for replying . Some interesting links , great photo of James Hunts Camero and some good film of the tour , inc the Moskovitches !!! A next door neighbour bought a new pale blue ? Moskovitch Estate for his Butchers Business in approx 1973 . He rolled on the north Circ a few months later, got it home and repainted it Kermit Green!!
I would love to know what became of Spices Yellow Capri 3000.
