Here's a fascinating 1906 film shot in San Francisco a few days before the big earthquake levelled it.

There's no Ford Model T's because they didn’t go into production until 1909.

What I find interesting is the way people / cars / trams / horses all criss-cross the street randomly, without any 'elf n safety concerns and just relying on common sense. I wonder if the average traffic speed and accident rates were better then than getting through central London in 2010 ... !

Very interesting, I was in SF last week, those trams that are pulled about by cables under the road are great fun, especially if your hanging on the outside. Great city.

Having just watched the vid, I cant understand why they tried that experiment.

.... surely a plain simple roundabout is all they need to improve flow-order and minimise problems as the traffic volume changes ???!

One of the funniest things I have ever seen was in Amsterdam (not what you are thinking). Whilst having lunch outside a cafe two guys had a very minor push bike incident. Just lightly ran into one another, no one fell off. This escalated into an argument and then a punch up. Sorry a punch up over a minor push bike incident just seemed very funny and quite bazaar.
