just had a thought this afternoon, Any one know of or know a good reason why this has not been done (apart from the money that is!) would it be possible to update a say 1973 BMW 3.0 coupe with the running gear from an M3. Classic looks with modern engine, gearbox, brakes etc, maybe going as far as A/C, ABS etc, I have done some digging on the www but could find nothing.

any thoughts?

Great sleeper.
Obviously anything can be done if you have the money.

A cost effective option good for a few horses would be to opt for the 3.5 Straight 6 from either a rusted 635 csi /735i or e34 535i sport (manual gearbox best option) with a KKK K27 Turbocharger... or even the full setup from an old 745i (but thats a bit out of order!)

Not sure about the 24 valve lump??? (I think this is the one in the vid below)

Take a look here:

Check out the overtake in the vid at 2:37secs - insane.

I think the 3.5 conversion was popular in the 90s. Not sure about brakes & suspension mods. The biggest problem is finding an old CS to start with - they rust with great enthusiasm and are very expensive to restore. A 2800 or CSA would be cheaper as a starting point.

A chap on the e9 coupe forum built a 3.8 cs coupe, I think it was a chap called Paul Cain ? He them went on to build a highly modified 2002. I will see if I can find a link from my old CSL days....
