I am offering an opportunity to get a lot of exposure for your business for little or no outlay. I'd be grateful if you would consider it or pass this to someone who might be interested.

During 2009 I used my modified Midget 1500 to compete successfully in a variety of events (sprints, hillclimbs, classic rallies, various types of autotest, production car trialing) with various different organisations.

Each event was written up in a series of 7 articles for the world's best selling MG Magazine (PM me for deatails) and will be published this year. The theme is grass roots motorsport that readers could get out and enjoy with little preparation / experience / expenditure. After these 7 have been published there will then be either an eighth article or a series of short articles about my experiences in 2010.

Each of the first 7 articles has already be written, accepted and photographed but they need a "signature" picture that will be repeated each month. Basically me in my race suit, holding my helmet (!) standing next to the car. Each month will also carry a link to my website which will feature videos of the car / events.

Your business' name or web address could appear on the side of the car in the signature pictures and the videos of the 2010 events and I would be happy to have a link from my website to yours too. When I'm competing your name would also be on the car. Obviously I would want something in return. Money would be nice but I'm happy to settle for some kind of deal. For example - a substantial discount on parts.

The likely cost to you? The engine needs rebuilding or replacing because of a holed piston and damaged bore. I need, therefore, a balanced bottom end (including clutch) with a standard head or at the least a complete rebuild kit. Apparently I need to replace the oil cooler too as it will be contaminated following the engine failure. I also want to fit electronic ignition and change the air filters because the current ones let too much dust in during the rallies. After that it would only be replacement parts as the car is developed as far as the rules allow for the hillclimb class I run in. Last season I broke one diff and two driveshafts but nothing else (apart from the engine!). Of course if you set the discount at just above what the parts cost to you, the cost would be zero.

Since I don't have the time / skills to fit the parts there is no great incentive for me to go round ordering parts just to get the discount - I'd have to pay labour and my share of the parts too. however, I would be happy for you to set an upper limit.

Of course, if you have an alternative way that would benefit us both I would be very happy to hear it.

For 2010 I will be competing in the MG Car Club speed championship which uses a target system. The car has won this before with a previous owner. I only did 2 events last year. At Silverstone I set a new class record by almost 2 seconds and at Prescott I was just over a second off the record, despite the holed piston (the commentator made a number of comments about the amount of smoke!). We will also do at least 3 rounds (hopefully more) of the HRCR Road rally championship. In our first rally last year we set second fastest time on one stage (from 6o cars) and in our second we were always top ten and were generally only beaten by a Porsche 2.7 Carrera and a couple of very serious TRs. The first autotest I beat everything except the modern rally cars (I came 3rd overall) and in the second I set a FTD and the people I was quicker than went on to win pretty much every thing at MG live! the following weekend (although I wasn't consistent enough to win overall).

I will also be competing in various local events, notably with the Sporting Car Club of Norfolk. If you had a customer interested in doing something similar I would be more than happy to take them to an event and give them an idea about why it is great!

So the car and driver should reflect well on your company with some strong results. In particular I am aiming for a top five overall finish in the Speed championship.

If you like the idea of appearing in the world's best selling MG mag for at least 8 editions for little or no cost, or have an alternative idea, let me know. I look forward to hearing from you.

Chris
