Time for some heavy metal!
Not to sure about the air filter sticking out of the bonnet, spoils the lines a bit don't you think. When the Mustang pulled up next to my Cobra I was quite surprised to see Robbie Coltrane get out. I was more surprised when he informed me I was driving a "girly" car, never heard it described as that before.

Oh the prewar stuff . . .
D-types rock! That black XK caught my eye . . . Is the unsprayed one an early ally one?
The C and the D both belong to the same guy. Lucky *!#$, although actually he's really nice. D-types rock! That black XK caught my eye . . . Is the unsprayed one an early ally one?
The bare metal 120 is one of the very very early ones. I'm sure Lowdrag will be along in a mo to give the chassis number, I can't remember it off the top of my head. I think it is the earliest one not in a collection and the earliest real customer car. It lives down in Oz and was over for XK60. The story is that the own stripped the paint off years back in preperation for re-painting and ended up deciding he liked it like that and has kept in in bare metal ever since.
OK, a quick hunt back through my notes.
The car is 660004 the first XK ordered by a private customer and the first to compete in a motor sport event in the Southern hemisphere. Current owner has owned it since 1961 and the car has clocked up in excess of 500,000 miles.
Yes, you put in 004 before I could answer. Lovely guy who was at Silverstone last year with it and then toured Ireland as well. The chap with the C & D also has a beautiful original paint E-type, a little thing called E2A and recently acquired (I went to see it on his behalf) a VW Samba which was in fantastic original condition.
A roadster huh? Well, definitions vary since in Jaguar terms an E-type wasn't a roadster but a drop head. The Early Sprite Frogeye was a roadster, as was the XK120, but later Midgets were dropheads of course. So, once again and being true to myself but rather boring (as usual) I choose the Alfa Romeo 8C but at a push would accept a 6C instead. If modern cars are included I reckon I would love to have a go at an Ariel Atom just to prove I couldn't handle it these days, but a Caterham would be a nice back-up.

I was going to suggest an Ariel Atom for the topic about restoring cars on the basis that experience shows that if I do anything with bodywork I cock it up so I'd better choose to restore a car which doesn't have any.
I'm going to show my total ignorance of E-Types here, but with XKs there are FHC, DHC and OTS, I thought the E had FHC and OTS. But then I haven't been paying sufficient attention in class.
With 0004 I wrote the first half of my posting during a short interlude and got interrupted before I could hit the send button. I then had time to hunt out the chassis number. I thought it was 4 but wanted to make sure.
It's a lovely thing, and great to see it being so used and a owner of such a historically significant car who is prepared to do his own thing with it and just use and use it.
