Asked this in my local section but they took the mick so I've bought it here. Rather more class...

Getting married in April and being a car guy have been put in charge of transport. The unusual thing is that the whole journey would take 3 minutes to walk (literally) though we might ask the car to do several suffles. The only reason we need a car is in case it rains which is a strong possibility in April.

My sister had a 20's Rolls from the national motor museaum (the ceremoney was in the Abbey in the grounds) but nobody saw it appart from the few that went in it. Bit of a waste of money.

I don't want a normal wedding car - I might just go for something from executive taxis but if I could find something really different from an owners club / enthusiast owner I might go with that. Since the car wouldn't be being used for hire or reward insurance not a problem (ie would pay cash!). There is no reason why you can't give a friend you met on PH a lift to his wedding.

I had thought about 3 proper Minis - Red, White and Blue like the Italien job but they aren't really good for getting in and out of in a dress.

Something oldish, biggish and differnt. 4 doors would be good too. A drag prepared 60's US saloon or a four door race car? Maybe a nice stack headlight Merc?

Bit of class - no stretchs etc!

Ideas please?

Gene Hunt Cortina MK3, sideways en route to the church? I also like the sound of the Minis too.

The coolest...
Must set the scene :- When I was about 12 I wrote to Jim'll Fix it about going in the general lee, which never happened.

Wedding day....About 60 of us gathered at the pub outside on lawn next to the road midday before my wedding.

Also before that I was up at 6am outside reading the latest Classic and sportcars July/August Addition 2005 (just by chance) about the Dodge Charger and in particular the General Lee trying to settle my nerves.

So stood on lawn having a beer at midday when I could hear a monster V8, then it rubbled over the hill and into view... As I shouted ''cool look at that'' it took ages for the penny to drop that the lads had remebered my Jim'll Fix it,and ordered it as the wedding car !!!!.

Had some good fun burning rubber outside the pub and some sideways moments, did the horn as we left the church after we where wed..

Was the best wedding present !.

How much would I love to buy this, the style of the car in the metal is something else. http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1168250.htm

I had a chat with the fine fellows of the TVR Car Club and had myself, best man and two ushers driven in convoy to the church in a couple of Tuscan S, and 2 T350s. Left in a Range Rover.

Brother was a jammy bd and blagged a DB5 from one of his new family.

great ideas here. Be careful though

we looked at several (I wanted a V12 lagonda, or the Derby bentley) but the space in the back was too small for the dress. And to the bride, the dress is everything. She wont appreciate getting the dress creased/damaged over a silly car. So you might want to find out first what you can fit her in

Or use the A-team van

Or, if its really short see if you can borrow a mobile travellator (like the airprots use) and let people move without actually walking

The point about the dress is key. For most brides it comes rather higher up the priority list than the bloke standing next to her laugh

A mate runs a classic car wedding hire business. He'd got 3 Mk2s (OK 2 + a 240) and is for ever having to suggest to ladies that they really need to look at the S-Type (60s not modern) or even the Mk5 or Mk7 if they are going to wear their choice of dress.

You need quite a big car to get a lot of wedding dresses into.

There is a reason that wedding cars tend to be old (40s/50s/60s) limos, that's the space for the dress and the ability to get out gracefully, your future wife has spent hours and a small fortune on a dress, if the car causes problems for photos, or access then you will not be popular, get to some wedding fares, to see the difference.
