I know we are incapable of thinking for ourselves these days, legislation hemming us in and controlling our every waking (and sleeping) minute, but yesterday, coming home from seeing a fabulous collection, the autoroute sign was illuminated one kilometre from the toll booths. It read:-

Please remember to turn off the cruise control

The mind boggles.

I thought that most Cruise controls, switched off, the minute you put your foot on the brake or clutch. So unless you were thinking of throwing your change in the basket at 110 Km per hour, the notice is rather pointless. What happened to common sense?

Its blood boiling this type of 'active safety' nonsense. Gantry signs now 'Warn' that 'no holdups on motorway' or words to effect. Why Oh Why!! Just another stupid distraction.

The motorway sign is an incentive to break the speed limit. There is probably a speed camera a short distance ahead of that.
Reverse phychology man.

Do they not have adaptive cruise over there? You just switch it on and go to sleep!
