Does anyone out there have a tractor?
Discussion
I know it's a bit of a long shot but I was just wondering if I was the only person on PH's with an old tractor?
I know by the time you've read this far you'll be saying "Why and is he all there!!!" and A few years ago I would have said the same myself!!!
But I bought myself a 1940's little grey Fergie to use at home and I've done a bit of restoration on her and I've loved every minute of it! It's low tech and as tough as old coffin nails!!!
I look forward to hearing your reply's and ridicule!!!
P.S.
Before you write me off as some sort of fruit loop I do belong, I do have a few nice toy's in the garage (Jaguar, Porsche, Lotus) so don't be too hard on me!!!

Sad I know, but I do own a 1970 Nuffield (4/64 I think), kinda orange in colour tractor with a pick me up kinda thingy on the front. Best £400 I ever spent! Tows any car out of anything, rolls cars over with ease for easy access to the underside & really helpful when you need to lift engines, axles etc.
I don't actually have a tractor myself but I do get involved with tractors as part of my livelihood , one of my customers owns a very pristine restored David Brown of the fifties era - Aston Martin motoring connection there.. Personally I like the old Fordson Major and SuperMajors , just great classic lines (am I sane ?!) and the wheels remind me of the era Rostyle/Slot Mags. Well you did ask !
we own a 1979 3CX jcb thats a great tool, not only has it done hours of digging footings, pulling up old concrete floors, digging drains etc etc, but is great for all sorts of jobs, all you need is a couple of chains and it will do anything you ask.
it has got a healty taste for trans fluid, hydraulic fluid and hoses, but i wouldnt be without it!

my father has gone nuts with classic tractors as well. Had none 3 years ago, then he bought a 1946 Field Marshall series 2 which was in concours condition, he is using it as a working tractor as him and some of his mates are playing on a croft. And now he also has 4 grey fergies in various stages of disrepair, keeps buying one to fix another and round and round i goes! h plus a plethora of argi equipment also in various states of disrepair! Basically buying the tractors he wanted from his youth...
Yet still moans at me having ONE spares car at the side of the garage... tsk, double standards!
