Wanting to buy a Mk1 Capri
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm looking to purchase a Capri, specifically a Mk1. I've always promised myself a classic to tinker on when space, and funds would permit.
Fortunately, I've just rented a 400sq ft storage unit, which I've put up a mezzanine floor, doubling the space. This has left me a nice lot of room for all o my engineering equipment, and a lovely place to sit a car to tinker on, and enjoy
I've always loved the shape of a mk1 Capri, so this is what I am hunting down. I've come across a 1974 1600 GT, as of yet Im not sure if it is an x, l, r etc.
Its done 42k, and has one previous owner, it needs a bit of attention to the brakes, and one cill. The main area of concern is under the vinyl roof.
The pillars going down to the rear wheels is quite soft.
It feels like there is a number of rusted holes, underneath the vinyl, just up from the chrome trim.
I'm guessing this is a reaosnably common problem area, and wondered what sort of work I am in for sorting it out?
Any one with a rough idea of costs etc would be greatly received.
Many thanks
Matt

I love Mk1 Capris , especially the GTXLRs just something about them isn't there ? I'm not sure what you are going to find under that vynil roof but people have dealt with far worse I'm sure , the best panels by far are from these guys in Yorkshire http://www.steelpanels.co.uk/ , based on the original so you get a better fit. Wishing you good luck with that project of yours.
Thanks for the reply,
Yes there is definately something about them! Unfortunately it doesn't look like I wil lbe getting this one though, as the guy I'd like o make a deal with wont offer me enough cash with the Capri for the car I own he is after.
I'll just have to wait until another comes along

For me the early 1970 Pre-facelift RS 2600 racers were the best
heres
the 1972 24 heures du Mans Shark Team Gueurie/Rouget , which is for sale
or 1971 winner of the 24 hours of Spa-Francorchamps .
GAECKU19998,
same car in action in silver livery
also for sale !!
and my 1970 Cologne in France , with engine out,
currently undergoing an LS7 7 litre engine transplant , should be ready for mid 2010
