I really fancy a Gilbern Invader but it's got me thinking about other fibreglass bodied classic cars. Most are 2 seaters but very few have proper rear seating (neither does MGB GT !)
Of course we have Jensen, Lotus and Reliant but what other "sporting" 2+2 fibreglass car from 60's and 70's were there ?

Tvr made a few Tasmins with rear kids seats and not sure if the Marcos Mantis had 2 rear seats as well?

The Lotus Elan Plus 2 is a fine example...they were made from 1967-74 and are currently good value. They became more sophisticated over the years as Lotus wanted to move 'up-market', so the interior trim is much more plush on the Plus 2S 130/5 which was the last model produced. This had the Big Valve 126BHP Twin Cam from the Elan Sprint coupled with a 5 speed box and the very 70's silver 'Metalflake' roof. You can even get a conversion from Spyder Engineering who will replace the chassis & fit a Ford Zetec engine/5 speed gearbox to give modern reliability, amazing performance & classic design...at a price of course. And it goes without saying that a Plus 2 will handle properly; it is a Lotus after all ! However a standard Plus 2 will require a lot of care & attention to use everyday ; as anyone who has tried to do this will tell you !

Marcos did a Mantis 2+2 in the early 70's.

Neighbour has an Elan Plus 2.
When he first bought it there was overheating problems. Turns out that previous owner had fitted a normal number plate to the grill instead of just the letters / numbers as original and that was cause !

I'm old enough to remember it being unveiled. It was horrible in 1970's and hasn't improved, in my eyes, over the last 30 years !

Bit too modern I think to be included in list of 1960' / 70's cars :-)

Is it just me or do others think that the Peerless/Warwick GT has a hint of Aston Martin DB4 in the styling - which I like other than the little rear wings. I've seen pic of cars without so either the factory removed them on later cars or owners modified themselves.

Presumably when the Peerless morphed into the Warwick the fins got binned; the wiki entry reckons that ~325 Peerless and ~40 Warwicks were made. Plus it's GRP, so if you don't like fins, break out the jigsaw and get rid although prudence suggests that you make moulds from a Warwick first...

As I originally said I've my heart on a Gilbern but must admit I'd find the Peerless a strong second choice.

Very rare, I tried to find one on and off for two years, gave up and ended up with a rusty GT6!
